Raport anual 2025-EN

22 | PENNY | REWE GROUP Last year, we launched the study “Assessment of the economic and social impact of the retail sector in Romania”, carried out by the Bucharest University of Economic Studies. The key conclusions of the study showed that TripleRO (3RO) is a driver of local economic growth, while also highlighting strategic directions for retail development: • Significant contribution to GDP: the retail sector plays an active role in the Romanian economy, both through direct activity and by stimulating supply chains and the local food industry. • Differences between imports and exports of agri food products, leading to a trade deficit: imports mainly consist of processed foods and plant products (e.g. vegetables, fruits, and other processed food items), while exports are lower and consist mainly of raw materials, indicating the need for balanced trade policies • Impact of short supply chains and local production: previous studies carried out in partnership with the Bucharest University of Economic Studies have highlighted concrete opportunities for the development of Romanian businesses in industries such as agriculture, packaging, and food processing.
